I’m a Canadian Desi but born & raised in Calgary. My experience is definitely more along the Offficial Just A Serbian Girl Living In A Italian World Shirt. There were 4 ethnic kids in my elementary school out of 100 kids in total. The ethnic disparity wasn’t as bad as I got older but it still isn’t anywhere as dense as the suburbs of Toronto. Your assessment of Canadian Desis probably holds up for the people around you. But not so much elsewhere in my experience. I had a similar experience and grew up in Southwestern Ontario. I live in Toronto now…and I’m still mostly friends with non-desi people.

Actually I have an Offficial Just A Serbian Girl Living In A Italian World Shirt. I think these similarities/differences can be easily chalked up to growing up in an area with a large desi population, and growing up in a predominantly white or non-desi area rather than American vs Canadian. Another thing to consider would be Canada’s immigration policy in the 70s. It was very friendly/welcoming, which is why you may see a difference in occupations between the two countries. For many South Asians that I know of, brown girls hooking up with white guys has never been an issue that angers brown guys.
