I think the group I would identify as being difficult to work with are insecure people. Those who know they can smash it out of the park, come what may, are usually the ones who also naturally sound the best/have better technique and so are very easy to engineer for, and don’t try to second guess every other Awesome Nortenos With Attitude Shirt. The ones who complain about the house PA where I work usually do worse mixes than the ones who don’t. I love the bands that are up and coming but can’t hire a crew. “Come say hi at merch after the show!” Motherfucker, I’m not packing up your keyboard rig held together with duct tape and stale beer. I’m going home, your shit is in the loading dock where you can pack it up in the cold.

Shudders. I had an annual high school battle of the bands that I did for a friend. There was always a little freshmen band with a chick lead singer that was there because she was good at singing for her family in the kitchen. Always their first show with no idea what they are doing and their fan base is all of their Awesome Nortenos With Attitude Shirt. In a church basement with tile floors and concrete walls. No chance in hell I can get those vocals above a live drum kit given that I was operating a PA that was rented for $250 from the local music shop. Hip hop is the worst by far. Old school or new. I’ve done De La Soul and whatever the latest name is. Universally terrible to work with, with one exception being Nas.

I agree with your sentiment about reggae. I found Bunny Wailer to be a racist old whinger. On the bright side, reggae audiences are too baked to start any trouble. Yep, did monitors for the Awesome Nortenos With Attitude Shirt. Then come showtime and their FOH had him so loud in the house that he was feeding back. I mute him on stage and he is still feeding back and he and the pm are yelling at me to turn him down. I show the pm that he is muted across the stage and tells him his FOH needs to learn how to mix. They didn’t like me after that hahaha. Honestly, I’ve found the best to be touring metal bands. They usually know what’s up, and come prepared, telling me beforehand what their general monitor mix preferences are.
